The Brain's Academic
Resources
The internet is chock full of
information. Unfortunately not all of it is accurate, none of it is
organized, and a fairly large percentage of it is inaccurate. When it's
time to write that paper or begin that research project it's imperative
to have the proper resources to do an outstanding job. We think starting
with the basics is a great idea. We recommend these online resources.
Library of Congress
One outstanding source for sorting through
what's out there is the
Library of Congress where nearly every published document is listed,
catalogued and searchable. The Library of Congress Online Catalog
contains approximately 12 million records representing books, serials,
computer files, manuscripts, cartographic materials, music, sound
recordings, and visual materials. The Catalog also displays searching
aids for users, such as cross-references and scope notes.
The
catalog records reside in a single integrated database; they are not
separated according to type of material, language of material, date of
cataloging, or processing/circulation status.
The Librarian's guide to the Internet
The
Librarians' Guide to the
Internet sorts the wheat from the chaff and presents a great deal of
Internet content in a rational way.
The mission of Librarians' Index to the
Internet is to provide a well-organized point of access for reliable,
trustworthy, librarian-selected Internet resources, serving California,
the nation, and the world.
Library Spot
A third gateway to cataloging
Internet information is the
Library Spot. This
site is a treasure trove of information that has been carefully indexed
and inspected for quality and utility.
